Restore The Trails

Mountain trails and degraded area’s restoration

From the Kilian Jornet Foundation we embark on a project of great environmental impact, directing our efforts towards the restoration of mountain trails and degraded areas.

This initiative, based on three fundamental lines of work, is seen as a beacon of change in the preservation of natural mountain environments.

Direct
Actions

Directly from our Foundation

Under the guidance of the KJF, this line of action involves a series of specific measures aimed at restoring the balance of mountain ecosystems, generating a strong local and territorial impact. The restoration of trails, the removal of abandoned infrastructure, the recovery of degraded areas and the appropriate marking of routes are the main actions under this line of action. The dissemination of these actions will be carried out actively through various digital platforms, guaranteeing total transparency and a greater awareness of the community towards these issues.

Why is it important to restore trails?

  • Protect Natural Habitats and Biodiversity: Restoring trails helps reduce human impact on fragile ecosystems, preserving local wildlife and plant species.
  • Combat Soil Erosion and Water Runoff: Restored trails prevent erosion and harmful runoff, protecting soil and nearby water sources.
  • Support Sustainable Activities: Maintaining safe and accessible trails encourages responsible outdoor recreation and supports local economies.
  • Preserve Cultural and Historical Heritage: Restored trails safeguard the cultural and historical significance of traditional routes.
  • Encourage Environmental Awareness: Trail restoration engages the community in conservation efforts, fostering a deeper respect for and connection with nature.

    Collaborative Actions

Forging alliances with other environmental associations for greater impact

The KJF seeks alliances with other positive initiatives that are already active in the preservation of natural environments. Trailworks associations, along with other non-profit entities, become key and potential partners for this type of action. Through this collaboration, the goal is to achieve a greater impact on the restoration of mountain territories, demonstrating that together we can work towards the conservation of the environment.

These are some of the partners we collaborated with:

    Volunteer
    Actions

Community at the heart of environmental transformation

Volunteer actions will be organized to bring the local community together to actively restore and preserve natural mountain environments. These initiatives are open to individuals, companies, and other interested groups, providing a meaningful opportunity for direct involvement in environmental conservation. Research has shown that community-driven activities not only foster a sense of shared responsibility but also lead to stronger bonds within the community, encouraging long-term protection of local ecosystems.

Engaging volunteers in restoration efforts increases awareness of environmental issues, creating ambassadors for sustainability who carry the message beyond the event. Volunteering in natural settings has been linked to improved well-being, as participants gain a sense of belonging, purpose, and connection to nature. The collective effort of restoring trails and degraded areas also sets a powerful example for future generations, emphasizing that change is possible when communities unite for a common cause.

In summary, the Kilian Jornet Foundation’s mountain trails and degraded areas restoration project not only represents a firm commitment to the preservation of the natural environment, but also highlights the importance of collaboration, innovation and community participation in this pivotal task.
