“Every time we lose a species, we break a chain of life that has evolved over 3,500 million years”.
Jeffrey McNeely, UICN scientist.
To celebrate the International Mountain Day, on December 11, 2022, we bring scientists closer to the schools, with the project “We lose biodiversity. Let’s act!”
For this project we were supported by CREAF, an international well known research center in terms of biodiversity.
Kilian Jornet hosted four talks with different scientists, which discussed about biodiversity.
Two of them from CREAF. Eduard Pla, who discussed the role of Mediterranean forests and fires, and the biological diversity, presented by Mariona Ferrandiz.
We also interviewed Josep Maria Mallarach, who introduced the immaterial value of nature, and Carles Lalueza, who talked about genetic diversity.
The objective of the project, was bringing this knowledge closer to the schools, and to opening the debate with the students thanks to the possibility of sending questions directly to these scientists, who later responded. A total of 15 secondary schools signed up for the project, getting involved in the natural environment of their surroundings and learning about the importance of it and its biodiversity.
